Sin Chew Cup Final Round 2008 (Under-13) Game3

Game 3 against DNA Blue was U6BC's last and final game in their Sin Chew Cup under 13 final round. This game was only for pride as they were already out by the end of the second match, loosing to Aramis. They started today's game with a new line up with 3 guards and 2 centers. The guards were Guan Sian(PCH), Jason, and Aaron and at low post stands Gavin while high post was played by Jia Wei(PCH).

They did not get of to a good start loosing the quarter loosing by 18 points. They only had 2 points in this quarter with Jia Wei scoring an easy basket. In the first quarters U6BC were called for 3 ID fouls because of that, they got 4 free throws Ang from DNA hit all the four free throws. The second quarter was also another disappointing quarter scoring only 4 points. The score after the first half was 30 - 6.

After the 2 minute half time break, they went out with a stronger mentality and changed their strategy in defense because there were no more ID fouls. They played a full court 2 - 2 - 1 press which caused DNA to make a few turnover but unfortunately our players did not take full advantage of the turnover's by their opponent to get back into the game. They (U6BC) also tried their diamond zone defence once their full court trap was broken up. They did managed to keep DNA from scoring but wasn't enough to stop both their star players Lim and Tai from scoring. U6BC lost the quarter by 7 points.

By the fourth quarter, DNA put the game to bed already. DNA trying to play their game but U6BC fought back to play a fast game in the last quarter to try to make the score difference lower. It was their first time they managed to get double digit for points in this quarter. They still lost the game 61 - 22.

Jia Wei, was on top form scoring 11 of the points almost half of the team's score. Guan Sian had a good performance today too. He is really good and talented for a young player only aged 12. Anyway its a good job guys. All played well. We have to train harder and practice more to be better next year. And thanks to Jia Wei and Guan Sian for helping our team.

Tanjung Mahsuri Cup 2008 Review.

Thursday November 20, 2008

Key players help Tanjung Mahsuri win basketball title

TANJUNG MAHSURI (TM) overturned the formbook in the Under-16 category to claim the title in the TM Subang Jaya boys’ Under-14 and Under-16 basketball competition at the USJ6 Basketball Centre (U6BC) outdoor basketball court in Subang Jaya on Saturday.

Despite finishing second, behind Subang Jaya Basketball Academy (SJBA) 15 in the group stage, TM produced an upset in a rematch against SJBA 15 and prevailed with a 39-30 victory.

SJBA 15 captain James Ng admitted their opponents were superior in the final with the services of two key players — captain Tan Wei Seng and Lim Gian Yang — from Kuala Lumpur.

The winners: The boys’ Under-14 champions SJBA ‘A’ with their prizes. With them are Loo (right), Chong (second from right) Mike (third from right) and Lee (left).

“We tried to put up a fight to match them. But we were too exhausted and allowed them to stretch their lead in the second half,” said Ng, adding that they registered a narrow 32-30 win over TM in the preliminary round.

After going into the interval with a solitary point advantage (16-15) in the first half, TM came out stronger to pull away in the following 10 minutes of play.

The lanky Tan from SMK Kepong Baru played a pivotal role and contributed 21 points including three successful attempts in sinking the three-point throws.

Reaching out: The SJBA 16 (in red) and USJ12 (in blue) engaging in an aerial duel in the boys’ Under-16 playoff for third spot

“Coming into the match we knew that it was going to be an even contest. We survived a very tough first half with only one substitute on the bench,” said Tan, who stands at 1.86m.

Meanwhile, it was a stroll in the park for SJBA 16. They chalked up a more convincing 57-34 win over USJ 12 to finish third in the Under-16 category.

In addition, SJBA “A” also did not face much resistance to overcome U6BC Red in the Under-14 final.

Although they were in total control to score a comfortable 74-38 victory, SJBA “A” captain Yew Kian Hong said they could have produced a better display.

“We were tired because we had to play in two matches in the morning. We took it easy and gave an average performance. We did not play to our true potential in the final,” he added.

USJ12 “A” defeated Kota Kemuning Basketball Team (KKBT) 49-21 in the playoff for the third spot.

Tanjung Mahsuri managing director Chong Min Hee, Spalding Malaysia managing director Mike Gill, U6BC chairman Loo Chin Oon and tournament director Juan Lee presented the prizes to the winners.

Tanjung Mahsuri and Spalding were the main sponsors of the annual tournament that drew 10 teams in each category. Among the other partners are 100Plus and Milo.

Training

Monday night training went on as usual. This time around the attendance was much better with 14 players attending training. Although Zoe, head coach, could not make it, Leonard, captain took over the training as the under 13 boys had one more game for Sin Chew Cup.

Training started with the usual warm up sets then followed by full court figure 8. Then players were separated into two groups. One team on each side of the base line. Players were asked to do basic lay ups, each team entering 20 balls. The first to enter the 20 balls will win. The looser from the first round had to do a full court sprint in 10 seconds. Although they did not managed to finish their first run in 10 seconds, they managed to do it after their third try. It was a good attitude as they never gave up to finish their full court sprint in time on their first try, but kept trying to finish it. Another round went on and the looser had to do 4 half courts in 40 seconds. By the second try they managed to finish it. After all the running, they got their water break.

After the water break lack of discipline from Justin made the team have to do 3 half courts. He did not listen to instructions and that caused the whole team to run extra. This teaches them to be more respective to their coach and also listen to orders plus being more discipline. After the punishment, the players were all paired up with their own skills and ability. Then they were separate into two rows each standing opposite their own players they were paired. Then they competed with one row on offence and one row on defence. The team which could make 10 baskets in the least time wins. The looser had to run to the half court and pump 10 then back to base line and pump another 10 then did a half court sprint.

The under 13 players then practiced a diamond zone defence. For the first time doing it, they managed to do well. They practiced it for quite a long time then played a short game of 5 on 5 against the seniors. Training ended after the 5 on 5 was over.

Here is something for all the players to learn from and read about it. And hope it does changes the players. PLEASE change after reading! :)

This picture shows that only with proper attitude and discipline we will get 100% of what we want to achieve. If we only work hard it only close to perfect but with proper attitude and discipline you can achieve a 100%. So please change you attitude and discipline to get a 100%. But do not forget to work hard too. :)

Sin Chew Cup Final Round 2008 (Under-13) Game2

Aramis took on U6BC Junior today, Sunday, 14/12/08 at 2 in the afternoon. Again only 6 players were available to play today. The players came with higher fighting spirit than the game before. It was obvious by the body language of the players which were going to play that they had more spirit than the game before.

Today they (U6BC) came with a slightly different squad taking Kishaf out and putting in young basketball sensation Jia Wei *Please take not that all the Jia Wei in italic is the Puchong player.* from Puchong only aged 12 and already playing for the state team. He started along side Jia Wei(U6BC player) as forward and Gavin at center and the two guards played by Aaron and Jason.

U6BC started of well ending the quarter with two foul in by Jia Wei and Gavin each which ended the score 18 to 16 in the first quarter. Aaron had to hit 3 points from way downtown to go ahead by the 4th minute. Within the 1st quarter, Gavin and Aaron was in foul trouble both picking up 2 fouls. Both fouls were rather a big mistake as both of them made four lazy fouls, sticking their hand in when their opponent were going of the lay up.

After the 2nd quarter started, the U6BC players lost concentration and barely managed to pass the half court line when they were in bounding. That led to a 12 - 0 run by Aramis in the starting minutes of the second quarter. Zoe, head coach of U6BC, quickly called a time out to re-group the players. They managed only very few points in the 2nd quarter letting Aramis out score them 33 - 8 in the 2nd quarter. The first half ended with U6BC trailing Aramis by 21 points with the score 49 - 28 at the break.

After talking about the team strategy during the half, U6BC started the 2nd half without their center Gavin due to a minor injury. Minutes into the second half Gavin was fit to play again and continued playing taking out Garry. Again they failed to beat their opponents loosing by 2 points in the 3rd period.

By the start of the fourth quarter U6BC were trailing by 23 points. With a change of strategy during the 3rd quarter between Jia Wei, Aaron and Gavin assigned by Leonard, assistant coach, they managed to work out the plan well during the fourth quarter and made a 14 - 4 run. Zoe called a time out with 1:56 on the clock left and the score at 66 - 60, U6BC trailing. They got out on to the court and within seconds, Gavin who started the 4th period with four fouls called for his fifth foul because of an elbow while taking rebound and moving away from his pivot foot. Garry replaced Gavin as he had to sit on the bench for the rest of the game. Without their only center, they lost by 12 points with a 12 - 0 run after the time out. The players really played all out during the 4th period winning the period by 13 points but it wasn't enough to beat Aramis which played hard too.

Aaron was top scorer with 24 point and Jia Wei (PCH player) with 22 points. All the players did very well and again Jason had a very good performance at guard again. Jia Wei and Aaron had a very good game both combining to score half of the teams' score. Aaron showed a little of a sulking body language in the 1st and 2nd period but still put on a got performance. All did play well and put on a good show. Everyone could see that this team never gives up and always continues playing hard till the buzzer sounds.

Next game is on Wednesday, 17/12/08 against DNA Blue at 9 PM.

*if possible to any parents of supporters for U6BC please bring a camera to take some pictures so the updates wont be so boring. thanks.*

Sin Chew Cup Final Round 2008 (Under-13) Game1

Game 1 for the U6BC under 13 boys team was played yesterday at the Semenyih half indoor court. Only 6 players out of the 8 players were available to play last night. One of their key player, Kim Sia also the first 5 starter was sick and could not play the game. Their other player Josiah, their 6th man could not make it because of personal reasons.

Although only 6 of them were going to play, they played with a very high fighting spirit. Aaron started with Jason as the guards and Jia wei and Garry on forward with Gavin taking up the center position. The game was lost by 78 points. The final score was 89 - 11. They (U6BC) managed to make it to double digits with because of the high determination and "never say die' spirit.

Jason, who was rather very impressive though he is only age 11 playing against players at 13 and much taller than him. He showed a lot of composure and determination trying to break SM Confusion A's 2-2-1 trap. He managed to do break the trap a couple of times. Jason also made put U6BC in to double digits with an under-basket shot over a their 5 feet 11 center. Jason really impressed and showed that he has a potential at guard for the U6BC juniors.

Gavin was the high man with 5 points. He got of to a good start getting the foul and hitting both his free throws. While Aaron scored 4 points and Jason with 2 points.

Although the score was rather one sided they gave their best and worked hard to try to win but unfortunately the other team was too much stronger for them. It was a good fight and we hope to see more from a fast growing team. This a very young team with 5 players all below age 11 and one player aged 12 and two seniors player aged 13.

Training

Training was delayed a little later today due to the weather and the wet court. Tho the attendance was considered quite poor which only 8 players turned up.

After the court dried, training started with our basic warm up sets. Later after finishing the warm up sets in just a short time, the players started to do lay ups. They had to make 8 in a row to finish one set. Players had quite a hard time to get the ball in because of the wet board but still they managed to finish the task. They moved on to the 3-point line and did lay ups without using the board. 8 lay ups in a row too. The same sequence was used from both the zero degrees 3 point. This time at zero degrees, players had to do a fake and cut. Before the players had their water break, they had to enter two free throws in a row before they can get their drink. For those who didn't get two in a row will have to do push ups 10 times per miss.

After the water break, the training went down to 7 players due to a player leaving training early because of personal reason. The 7 players were divided into two teams. One team consisting 4 players and the other team only 3 players. They were asked by their coach to play against each other in different situations. After playing 4 sets in 4 different situations, players did jump board and training ended.

*To those players who cant make it for training please inform coach or team captain or team assistant captain. Please have a good reason why player cannot make it for training
